Kitchen Renovations
Considering the kitchen often represents up to 20% of a home's value, it's truly the heart of the home, deserving of thoughtful investment. This ensures you maximize its inherent potential and create an inviting space where cherished memories are cooked up and savored.

Thinking of renovating your kitchen? Ask yourself the following questions:

1. What don't you like about your current kitchen?
-What do you want more of: Seating? Cabinets? Countertops?

- Some people want ample cabinet space for all their kitchen-related supplies and cookware, while others prefer the open and airy feel of minimal cabinets and floating shelves.

2. What would you change to make your life easier?
- Would you like to keep the same layout, or do you want to change the workflow of the kitchen?

3. Do you want custom cabinets (cabinets made for your space), or will store-bought cabinetry work for your needs?

- Custom cabinetry is tailored to your specific needs and space. While it involves a premium investment, the rewarding result is a design and layout crafted to the dimensions of your home, with built-in functionality for your family.

4. Do you have a plan in place for a temporary kitchen while this project is taking place?

- A lot happens in the kitchen, and ensuring you have a plan for cooking meals, doing dishes and storing food is important. Factor this into your personal budget as you might need to purchase things like a hot plate, shelving units, and a drying rack.
Some people even opt for temporary plumbing or electrical in a different area.
Depending on the weather, the BBQ is also a secondary source to your cooking needs.

5. Have you decided on a budget for this project?

Ensure you factor in elements like appliances, flooring, drywall, electrical and plumbing. Remember, just because it looks like the floor goes underneath your cabinetry, that doesn't mean that it does.

Bathroom Renovations
We all use our bathrooms daily, so it's essential that they are both highly functional and comfortable spaces to be in. But who said they can't be fabulous?

Our requirements for what makes the ideal bathroom can vary depending on various factors, but having an amazing space that also happens to be your bathroom should be normal. We are here to help you achieve that goal.

Thinking of renovating your bathroom?
Ask yourself these questions:

1. What don't you like about the bathroom?

Are they small things, like the fixtures, or larger things, like the tile or tub? The list you come up with from this question will help you envision your ideal bathroom.

2. Does the space flow well, or could the space be used differently to give you what you really want?

If your bathroom has only a single vanity and multiple users, a double vanity might better suit your needs. Alternatively, if you never use the bathtub, a custom shower with glass might be a more practical and open option, allowing the room to feel more spacious.

3. Do you have another bathroom in the home that you can use during the project?

Consider how this might impact the daily lives of everyone in the household and develop a plan.

4. What's your budget?

Depending on the design and finishes chosen, there may be special requirements, such as running new electrical lines, larger piping, and additional work.
Things like tile and fixtures come in a wide range of prices. Remember, it is easier to replace things like a faucet than tiles after your renovation is complete. If you're trying to maximize your budget, it might be worth allocating less to things that are easily replaced and more to things like the surfaces.

Kitec Restorations
How Does Our Kitec Restoration Process Work?

1. It starts with an in-home consultation with our company and a licenced plumbing company. We can provide one, or we will work with the plumbing company of your choice.
We will walk through your home to determine the most likely path the Kitec lines are run; then, we will provide you with a detailed estimate for the preparation and restoration of your home.

2. Once the contract is signed and the deposit is cleared, your desired timeframe is locked into the schedule.

3. The in-home project begins by preparing and protecting your home in the areas affected.

4. We strategically open up the walls, ceilings, and surfaces to provide access to the plumbing, as per the city/town building code guidelines.

5. The plumbers then remove the kitec and replace the waterlines

6. Once the new waterlines are tested, inspected, and passed by a city official, we restore your home.
What is Kitec?

Kitec plumbing is a type of plastic piping with an aluminum layer in between, typically connected with brass fittings. It was used extensively in residential and commercial construction.
Kitec pipes were often bright orange for hot water lines and bright blue for cold water lines, though they could also be red, light blue, grey, or black.

When was kitec plumbing used in Canada?

Kitec plumbing was widely used in Canada between 1995 and 2007, but some installations occurred outside this range.

Why was it used?
It gained popularity because it was marketed as a cost-effective, easy-to-install, and corrosion-resistant alternative to traditional copper piping.

The Problem with Kitec:
Over time, these systems were found to be prone to premature failure due to corrosion of the fittings (which contained high levels of zinc) and degradation inside the pipes themselves, as they are multi-layered pipes. This often leads to leaks and significant water damage. Deformation, "bubbles", or "humps" forming around the pipes are one sign that the pipes are degrading and will likely fail (see photos to right of page).
Recall and Lawsuit:
Kitec plumbing was recalled around 2005. A class-action lawsuit was launched against the manufacturer, IPEX Inc., which resulted in a settlement to compensate affected homeowners. The deadline to file a claim under this settlement was January 9, 2020.

Identifying Kitec:

Besides the construction date of a property, you can look for bright orange, red, and blue pipes. Exposed pipes are often visible near the hot water tank, under sinks, and in mechanical rooms. The fittings and pipes might have "Kitec", "KTC", "XPA", or "ASTM 1281" markings printed on them.

Even though the period of widespread use was between 1995 and 2007, some installations might have occurred slightly outside this range as existing stock was used up.
If you suspect your home might have Kitec plumbing, it is highly advisable to have it inspected.

Common Kitec quesitons [FAQ's]:

How long does it take to complete?

The process varies depending on the type of home, the number of waterlines within the home, the access to the areas, and the finishes behind and on the walls.
We have completed well over 100 of these, so rest assured that our process is designed to be as efficient as possible.

Can I still live in the home? What about water during the project?

Yes. We only turn the water off for 1 day while the pipes are being replaced. This is done during the day, and usually, you have use of the water by the evening of the same day.
However, if you have the ability to go somewhere else, it may be less intrusive to your daily lifestyle.
How much of my home will be affected?

This is dependent on how the plumbing was initially run. When we walk through your home, we will tell you the areas we believe will be affected so you can prepare.

Do I need to move everything out of the areas affected?

Your ability to clear the space will directly contribute to a faster and more efficient project completion. We understand there may be some remaining items, and we can certainly work around them as long as they don't pose any risks. Additionally, we can offer on-site storage solutions if you require assistance finding space for anything during the project.

How much will the project cost?

Your investment will reflect the scope of your home and your fixtures and finishes. Our promise is unwavering: to deliver exceptional quality and lasting value throughout your project. This commitment includes using premium protection for your floors, incorporating advanced materials, air purification, HEPA filters, and quality drywall and paint products, resulting in a finish that meets or exceeds its original character.

What if I want something else done at the same time?

No problem. It's common for clients to add something off their wishlist to a Kitec restoration project, as the areas are already under construction. Let us know before we start the project so we can ensure we provide you with the proper timeframe, schedule and any necessary trades to complete your additional requests.
